CFCA's Statement on CARB's ACCII Rule
Sacramento, CA - In approving the Advanced Clean Cars II rule, the California Air Resources Board has set another goal that cannot be met by the arbitrary deadline. The vehicles, even with the multiple incentive programs, are out of reach for a large number of Californians and electric vehicle charging equipment is not nearly as widespread as it must be to meet the needs of drivers. Advancing beyond the capabilities of existing technologies, infrastructure, and the budgets of everyday Californians is not in the best interest of anyone besides a few powerful companies and those in government that choose to ignore reality.
Every summer, Californians are asked to reduce electricity usage to avoid outages by avoiding the use of appliances and suffering through high temperatures. This electric vehicle mandate will further strain our grid and force Californians to pay even high utility bills. California’s residential electricity costs are the highest in the nation and further rate increases are rubber stamped year after year.
This is not an equitable, affordable, or reliable solution for all Californians. CFCA members have been and continue to provide the cleanest fuel in the country. Our members continue to offer alternative options to cleaner fuel that have been repeatedly ignored by California regulators. We hope the Governor's team will see the wisdom in exploring other options outside of only electric vehicles before the infrastructure and populace are ready.
