PSA - Notice from Gas Stations on Supply Availability During PG&E Shutoffs
10/09/2019

Sacramento, CA – The fuels and convenience industry is working to ensure that we can meet the fuel and food needs of California’s residents during this unfortunate time. Over the last several hours, we have received word from within the PG&E blackout area regarding gas stations overwhelmed by an influx of concerned customers.

The reports that we are seeing do not indicate that the PG&E power outage will last longer than a couple of days. Should no other critical infrastructure, such as refineries or loading terminals, be included in further black outs, this short run on gas station supplies will return to normal shortly.

The reality is that gas stations can only store a finite supply of fuel in their tanks at any given time. And, a mass influx of customers resulting from fears over future availability, will create shortages at local stations and convenience stores.

CFCA advises California’s drivers to continue a normal fueling routine, without any immediate overreaction.

Gas stations with backup generators will continue to be able to provide fuel for the duration of the shutoffs, and they are working with suppliers to keep these stations full. As soon as the power is restored, the availability of fuel in affected areas will no longer be a concern.

Please be patient with station owners and operators, and your fellow drivers.
